What to do in Galicia the week of July 22nd to 28th

Galicia lives the Apostle Santiago celebrations with lots of acts throughout the community and the epicenter in the capital, Santiago. But on the agenda for this week you can also find activities around ethnography, music and the tastiest menus.


Fogos do Apóstolo

July 24th. Santiago de Compostela.

On the night of the 24th of July an impressive audio-visual and pyrotechnic show will fill the Plaza del Obradoiro with magic, attracting thousands of visitors. It will be the highlight of the festivities that during the whole week will also allow you to enjoy the music of Xoel López, La Casa Azul, La M.O.D.A., Budiño, The Main Squeeze, Zalon Thompson, Leilía, Papaya and the Real Filharmonía de Galicia.

Romaría da Fraga

Until July 25th. As Pontes.

For more than 100 years, the inhabitants of As Pontes have been meeting every July 25th around the Eume River to enjoy a day of celebration, picnics and dancing. This year the musical highlight will be the group Los Inhumanos, and also the day before, on Wednesday the 24th, the Folk Festival will take place with the performances of Boj, A Banda de Shangai, Kolme Katu and The Skarnivals.

Oenach Atlántico

July 26th to 28th. Narón.

Narón reminds its ‘castrexo’ past with a celebration in Sedes parish. The participants will recreate how the ancient inhabitants of the place used to live. This edition of the Atlantic Oenach will begin on Friday with the lighting of the fires and the performance of Leilía and will continue on Saturday and Sunday with a craft market, games, workshops, music and theatre plays.


Festa do Carneiro ao Espeto

July 28th. Moraña

The Festa do Carneiro ao Espeto celebrates its 50th anniversary on Sunday, although its origins go back to the 20s of the last century. As every last Sunday of July, the oak forest of Santa Lucia will be filled with groups of friends and families who will enjoy roast lamb cooked as it was done in Argentina in the past.

Tom Jones and Rick Astley

July 23th and 26th. Vigo

If you miss the music of other older times, this is your celebration. Vigo’s musical agenda includes two international stars willing to perform in the Castrelos auditorium some of the themes that elevated them to the charts. On Tuesday the appointment will be with Tom Jones, author of such famous songs as What’s New Pussycat and Delilah. Friday will be the turn of Rick Astley and hits like Never gonna give you up.


Festa da Dorna

Until July 24th. Ribeira.

After the first acts of the past weekend, this fun celebration offers for the next few days some of the central proposals of its program: the “Jran Premio Ícaro de Voo sen Motor” and the “XXXI Edision do Exame de Patróns” (Monday 22th) , the “Trinautlón Dorneiro”, the “Jran Final do Sertame Itinerante da Cansión de Tasca” (Tuesday 23th), the “Rejata de Embarcasións Feitas a Machada e Propulsión a Pan de Millo” and the “Xojos Dorneiros” (Wednesday 24th) .

Atardeceres no Gaiás

July 26th and 27th. Santiago de Compostela

The musical program Atardeceres no Gaiás includes two performances this week on the Cidade da Cultura. On Friday the audience will be able to dance to the rhythm of the vital pop of Floridablanca (Madrid) and on Saturday it will be the band Berta Franklin (Lugo) who will put the soundtrack to the sunrise in Compostela.
