Guide to not getting lost in the Fiestas del Apóstol

The capital of Galicia honours  its patron this week. The celebrations of the Apostle Santiago, that began the past days, start their central days with a varied program and proposals for the most diverse publics. We bring you a short guide to enjoy all the events.

For the family

The Apostle is a party to enjoy in family, either entering the Alameda to escape from the heat and enjoy the attractions, either walking through the city centre to contemplate proposals as the storytelling show scheduled for Tuesday or the bigheads and giants that will be seen on Wednesday and Thursday. In addition, if you are a fan of classic vehicles, you can watch them closely on Saturday and Sunday in the concentration of vintage cars that will once again take the streets of Santiago.

For music lovers

Music has always been one of the highlights of the festivities of the Galician capital. After the performances of Budiño, La Ventana and Xoel López last weekend, the week starts with The Main Squeeze and Jamila Purofilin & Rey Montesinos (Monday). Music will not stop playing until the end of the festivities: La Casa Azul and The Tune (Tuesday), Moon Cresta and La M.O.D.A. (Wednesday), Leilía, Milladoiro and The Soul Jacket (Thursday), Tango á Rúa and Phantom Club (Friday), Wöyza (Saturday) and Chico César and Trilitrate (Sunday).

To enjoy culture

Culture fills the streets of Santiago and the guided tours that will be held on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday following the steps of Castelao are a good proof of it. Participants will learn about the spaces of Compostela related to the work and the legacy of the Galician intellectual. On Thursday will take place the Romaría dos Libros and the traditional mass and floral offering in memory of Rosalía de Castro.

For a magical night

On Wednesday night will take place one of the most awaited moments of the festivities: the Fireworks of the Apostle. The front of the Pazo de Raxoi will serve as a screen for a spectacular videomapping projection that will be accompanied by fireworks. As on previous years, the authorities will deploy an important security device in the access to the Plaza del Obradoiro, so if you want to enjoy the show from this emblematic place, we recommend you to go in advance without backpacks. And if you prefer to escape from the crowds, the city has viewpoints and other places from where it is also possible to watch part of the show.
