Gastronomic experiences in Galicia during Holy Week

Easter in Galicia is the perfect time to rest, enjoy its traditions, savor local gastronomy, get lost in its natural landscapes, and feel at home.

Among its celebrations are Festivals of International Tourist Interest, such as the Semana Santa de Viveiro and Semana Santa de Ferrol, as well as other notable festivals in Galicia: the Fiesta del Santísimo Cristo de Fisterra, Semana Santa de Cangas, Paradela (Meis), Betanzos, Mondoñedo, Santiago de Compostela, Lugo, and Semana Santa do Carballiño.

Additionally, during this period, gastronomic festivals of tourist interest take place, ideal for tasting local products.

Feira do Viño de Amandi

The Feira do Viño de Amandi honors the winemaking tradition of the D.O. Ribeira Sacra in an atmosphere full of music and joy. During the fair, attendees can taste the mencía wines of the region along with typical products such as cheeses, honey, and sweets, and discover the traditional pottery of Gundivós, known for its black finish. Thousands of people participate each year in this event that combines culture, gastronomy, and tradition.

Feira do Queixo do Cebreiro

Where: Pedrafita do Cebreiro
When: April 3

Celebrated since 1987, the Feira do Queixo do Cebreiro highlights the gastronomy and popular traditions of the area. Visitors can taste the famous Queixo do Cebreiro and typical dishes like octopus, while enjoying parades, traditional dances, and the reading of the festival proclamation by a distinguished guest. The fair combines culture, gastronomy, and entertainment in a unique day for the whole family.

Festa do Requeixo e do Mel das Neves

Every Good Friday, the Festa do Requeixo e do Mel das Neves celebrates the traditional flavors of the region, focusing on requeixo (curd cheese) and honey. Visitors can taste these products accompanied by wines and local dishes such as octopus or wine-cooked chorizo, while enjoying music and cultural activities. The festival also includes courses and lectures on the production of requeixo and honey, with the tasting of requeixo with honey being a true gastronomic emblem of the area.

Festa da Ostra de Arcade

Where: Soutomaior
When: April 3–5

The Festa da Ostra de Arcade is one of Galicia’s most attended gastronomic celebrations, attracting over 25,000 people each year. During the weekend, visitors can enjoy raw oysters with lemon, empanadas, or marinated oysters, paired with albariño wine, while enjoying music, parades, and fireworks. One of the main attractions is the skill of the oyster shuckers, who open oysters quickly and expertly in front of the audience.
