Looking for a different plan this winter without leaving Galicia? Manzaneda, the region’s only ski resort, is an ideal choice for enjoying the snow with family, friends or as a couple.
The resort opened the season on December 23 and is located in Cabeza de Manzaneda (Ourense), very close to the Portuguese border and surrounded by Galicia’s highest mountains, at an altitude of between 1,500 and 1,800 metres.
A privileged setting to unwind, breathe fresh air and experience winter in the heart of nature, perfect both for a day trip and for enjoying a full weekend getaway.
A snow destination for everyone
One of Manzaneda’s greatest strengths is its versatility. It is a destination designed for all types of visitors, regardless of age or previous experience in winter sports.
- For families, children can safely take their first steps on the snow, enjoy sledging or simply play and explore the surroundings.
- With friends, skiing and snowboarding combine with a relaxed atmosphere, ideal for sharing sport and fun.
- As a couple, the mountain landscapes, snowshoeing routes and the gastronomic offering create the perfect setting for a peaceful and special winter escape.
At Manzaneda, you don’t need to be an expert skier — the important thing is to enjoy the experience and the natural surroundings.
More than 15 kilometres of ski runs
The resort offers over 15 kilometres of skiable terrain, spread across 23 slopes of different difficulty levels. It also features 6 ski lifts, 5 kilometres of cross-country skiing and 4 kilometres of artificially snow-covered runs, thanks to its snowmaking system.
- For beginners
The Xeixo area is specially designed for first-timers. It is a safe and accessible space to learn the basics of skiing, with the added bonus of privileged panoramic views from the upper part of the resort.
- For more experienced skiers
Runs such as Manolo, Refugio, Fontefría and Regato offer attractive routes for intermediate levels. More advanced skiers can enjoy the red run Lusitania, with a spectacular descent through forests, or Pluviómetros I and II. The greatest challenge comes with the black run Entrenamentos, accessible from the Os Corzos drag lift.
In addition, the resort offers equipment rental, lockers and a ski school, making it easy for those without their own gear or for anyone wishing to learn with professional instructors.
Much more than skiing
Manzaneda is also an excellent option for those who want to enjoy the snow without skiing. Among the available activities are:
- Sledging, ideal for all ages
- Snowshoeing routes to discover the winter landscape
- A scenic chairlift, allowing visitors to reach one of the highest points and enjoy spectacular views
After a day outdoors, the resort offers a wide range of dining options at the foot of the slopes, with cafés and restaurants where you can recharge your batteries, from quick bites to traditional Galician cuisine.
For those who want to extend their stay, accommodation is available within the resort itself, including fully equipped apartments and more affordable hostels. Sleeping surrounded by nature and leaving the car behind for the whole weekend is part of the destination’s appeal.
Although winter is its flagship season, Manzaneda is also an active tourism centre all year round, offering activities such as a bike park, a 250-metre giant zip line, a multi-adventure park, a scenic chairlift or archery, among many other options for all audiences.
Close and easy to reach
Manzaneda stands out for its good accessibility from Galicia’s main cities:
- Ourense: 74 km (1 h 30 min)
- Lugo: 126 km (under 2 h)
- Santiago de Compostela: 181 km (2 h 30 min)
