Between vineyards and the sea: discover the Atlantic flavour of Rías Baixas

The Rías Baixas Wine Route is one of the most outstanding wine tourism proposals in Galicia, combining the excellence of the Albariño grape with coastal landscapes, historical heritage and a rich gastronomy.

The Rías Baixas Designation of Origin is divided into five sub-zones: Val do Salnés, Condado do Tea, O Rosal, Soutomaior and Ribeira do Ulla. Each one offers a different experience:

  • Val do Salnés: Considered the birthplace of Albariño, it is home to towns such as Cambados, known for its historical heritage and its role in wine production.
  • Condado do Tea: Located inland, it stands out for its river landscapes and terraced vineyards.
  • O Rosal: Located at the mouth of the Miño, it combines vineyards with river and ocean views and a rich fishing tradition.
  • Soutomaior: The smallest, but with a great wealth of landscape and culture.
  • Ribeira do Ulla: To the north, it offers a more rural and peaceful setting, ideal for those looking to disconnect.

Along the route, more than 50 wineries open their doors to offer tastings, guided tours and wine-related activities. In addition, events such as ‘O Latexar de Terras Gauda’, which combines wine, music and art in a unique setting, are organised.

But this route is not only about wine; it is also about history and nature. You can visit the castle of Soutomaior, centuries-old manor houses such as Rubiáns, churches and monasteries such as Armenteira (Meis), fishing villages such as A Guarda and historical sites such as Combarro and Cambados. In addition, the proximity to the sea allows you to enjoy beaches, the Atlantic Islands National Park and hiking trails with breathtaking views.

Gastronomy is another of the pillars of this route. Fresh seafood and fish, together with local produce, are perfectly paired with the wines of the Rías Baixas DO. Restaurants and taverns offer menus that allow you to taste the best of Galician cuisine.

The Rías Baixas Wine Route is ideal for a weekend getaway or a longer holiday. With a wide range of accommodation, from rural houses to boutique hotels, and activities to suit all tastes, it is a perfect option for those looking to combine wine tourism, culture and nature.
