Route of the Fervenza do Toxa. The Toxa River waterfall, in the municipality of Silleda, is the highest in Galicia in free fall, with a jump of more than 70 m. The beginning and end of this circular route, of 12.4 km in total, already reveals it to us, although from a distance, since it is located on a high viewpoint. The landscape, in the middle of the Atlantic forest, between rocks, can be enjoyed from different points of view, as this is not the only viewpoint. After admiring the waterfall from all angles, from afar and up close, we can take the opportunity to follow the path that leads to the Carboeiro Monastery. Along the way, A Ponte de Ferro, the hermitage of San Paio, the river beach of Carixa, the medieval bridge of O Demo and… here is the monastery, a Romanesque jewel, as old as the landscape.
Route of the Barbantiño river. It runs along the riverbank in the municipalities of Amoeiro, Puxín and Maside, in the province of Ourense, along 18 km. It starts and ends at the park of the senses in Souto-Amoeiro. The route has a bit of everything: a bridge, an abandoned fish farm, old mills, dams… The best, the landscape as a whole, with a lot of charcoal and ferns. And finally we arrive at the Barbantiño or Cachón waterfall, with a drop of about 15 m. There are also the As Penas mills and the Pozo do Inferno. The route crosses the beautiful San Fiz bridge, which connects Amoeiro and Masidaeby the old royal road. We also arrive at the Martinga and Cornoces pazos.
Route of Castro Marce – Fervenza de Augacaída. It is in the Ribeira Sacra, in the municipality of Pantón. The route begins after 2 km down the banks of the Miño, in the direction of Marce. After walking a kilometer or so, we find the detour to the Augacaída waterfall. This can be seen from above or approaching the very base, through some stairs and wooden walkways. It has almost 40 m of drop, and it is quite impressive. Following the road, we arrive at Marce, at a fantastic natural viewpoint, where the remains of a fortress that had belonged to the Count of Lemos remain, and the Clock Tower, built by emigrants to America in the 20th century.
Route of the Vilacoba and San Xusto rivers. This may not be one of the best-known trails, but it is great for entering mysterious riverside forests, romantic landscapes. It is in the municipality of Lousame, in the province of A Coruña. The route covers 25 km, in which, in addition to natural architecture, we find the ruins of up to 7 paper factories, which have their own path of paper factories, about 4 km long. The largest is the Fontán factory, from 1863. There are also old tungsten mines, the fantastic Toxosoutos monastery and, around it, the waterfalls of the San Xusto river.
Route of As Fervenzas de Mazaricos. On this route there is not one but up to five waterfalls. It begins on the way to the Vioxo-Chacín waterfall, which brings water from the Rego do Casteliño. Further on, past the chapel of Santa Locaia, we find the waterfall of the same name, where the Pozo das Campás (The Bell Pit) is located, produced by the Vao da Denonciña river. According to legend, two thieves who had fled after stealing the bell from the chapel slipped and fell there, giving rise to the well and its name. It is followed by the Gosolfre waterfall, with a steep slope and vegetation, difficult to access. Then, that of Noveira, which falls through the granite rocks from the Arcos river to the Ézaro, ending in several pools. The Fírvado waterfall is the last one on the route, where the Xende River and the Rego do Ribeiro join. Here is O Pozo Negro too. Right in front of the waterfall, we can climb a rustic swing and take some good photos.
Fervenza do Ézaro Route. A great waterfall is that of the Ézaro, or Xallas, river, in Santa Uxía de Ézaro, in the municipality of Dumbría. The curious thing, in addition to the size of the drop, 40 m, is that it is a waterfall over the sea, an original way of flowing the river, to make matters worse, in the heart of the Costa da Morte, next to Mount Pindo. This is a short walk, no more than a kilometer, but intense, which runs along wooden walkways from the Electricity Museum to the base of the waterfall. To stretch out the route a bit, we can add it to the Route of the mills along the banks of the Rosa river that, in about 4 km, reaches the promenade and the mouth of the Xallas-Ézaro, ending at the Interpretation Center.
