What to do in Galicia from July 29th to August 4th

The month of August takes the relay of July and the festive agenda intensifies. Gastronomy and music lead a tasty and lively program of activities in which there will also be space for devotion, ethnography and crafts.

 

Festa do Albariño

From July 31th to August 4th. Cambados.

The capital of Albariño honours its most famous product through five days of celebrations. The origins of the celebration date back to a contest of winemakers that was organized in the middle of the last century, but since then the Fiesta has not stopped growing. Currently the exaltation of the wine that gives it its name comes accompanied by a large program of concerts. This year, the protagonists of the musical section are Treixadura (Wednesday 31st), Christina Rosenvinge and Javiera Mena (Thursday 1st), Luz Casal and Cora Velasco (Friday 2nd), Mala Rodríguez, Siniestro Total and Los Pablos (Saturday 3rd) and the Banda de Música de Castrelo (Sunday 4th).

 

Live music

July 29th and August 1st, 3rd and 4th. Vigo, Bueu and Sanxenxo

Live music will sound loud these days in Vigo, Sanxenxo and Bueu. In Vigo, the concert program of Castrelos auditorium will offer three proposals as different as they are interesting: Roger Hodgson, former member of Supertramp (Monday 29th); Thirty Seconds to Mars, actor Jared Leto’s band (Thursday 1st), and a triple show with Furious Monkey House, Xoel López and Vetusta Morla (Friday 2nd). In Sanxenxo, the first performances of the new Maestral Music Festival will be starring by Aitana (Saturday 3rd) and Hombres G (Sunday 4th). And in Bueu, twenty bands and artists will perform in the  Sonrías festival: Dubioza Kolektiv, Zoo, Periferia Norte and Nao (Thursday 1st), Iseo & Dodosound, La M.O.D.A., Toketing, Muyayo Rif, Nius de Nit, Hakuna Tanaka, Som do Galpom and Ambigüo (Friday 2nd) and La Pegatina, Sés, Boikot, Segismundo Toxicómano, Dakidarría, Zea Mays and Ninhodelosrecaos Dj (Saturday 3rd).

 

Atardeceres no Gaiás

July 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Santiago de Compostela.

The Cidade da Cultura gives welcome to the month of August with new evenings of music and sunsets: Apartamentos Acapulco (Thursday 1st), Malraio (Friday 2nd) and Monterrosa (Saturday 3rd).

Mostra da Olería de Buño

From August 1st to 4th. Buño (Malpica).

The village of Buño shows off its pottery tradition celebrating a new edition of its Mostra da Olería. During 4 days, visitors will be allowed to visit the stalls selling of the local potters, watch them work live, visit the Ecomuseo Forno do Forte and participate in other diverse activities. One more year, a traditional firing will enable to contemplate how the pieces were cooked in the past.

Romaría de San Fins do Castro

August 1st. Cabana de Bergantiños

Rites as unique as Berro Seco or Santo da Pólvora make this pilgrimage one of the most original of the Costa da Morte. As every August 1st, hundreds of people will gather under the trees that line the chapel of San Fins to enjoy a day of devotion, dance and picnic.

 

Festival of Pardiñas

August 2nd to 4th. Guitiriz

Forty years have passed since the first edition of the Pardiñas Festival, a celebration designed by the Xermolos association to spread culture. The acts of this edition will begin on Friday with the Certame de Cantos de Taberna and continue on Saturday and Sunday showing traditional instruments and crafts, and performances by groups such as Habelas Hainas, Dubhlinn & Anxo Lorenzo, Zënzar and Os Carunchos. The end of the celebration will take place on Sunday with the concerts of Antón Reixa, Kevin Weatherill, Pepe Vaamonde, Sito Carracedo, Susana Seivane, Uxía, Xosé Manuel Pereiro and Xurxo Souto at the Cantando ás Corenta evening.

Feasts to lick your fingers

August 1st to 4th. Arnoia, Silleda, Padrón, Burela and Oímbra

There is no celebration in Galicia where gastronomy is not present, but in many festivals it becomes the main character. Different varieties of peppers star in the celebrations of several villas. In A Arnoia (Ourense) they will have 4 days of activities (August 1st to 4th), while Herbón (Padrón) and Oímbra will concentrate the events in a single day: August 3rd and 4th, respectively. In addition, in Laro (Silleda), from August 2nd to 4th, their Romaría da Tortilla will be enjoyed while in Burela, the Festa do Bonito will take place on the 3rd and 4th of August.
