The eclipse will take place in the late afternoon, with the Sun very low on the western horizon. This makes Galicia a privileged destination, as many of its beaches, viewpoints, and cliffs offer clear views over the ocean—the ideal setting to observe it.

In some locations, the phenomenon will last until just before sunset, creating a magical atmosphere in which the light will change, the temperature will drop, and the landscape will be completely transformed.

Best places to enjoy the eclipse

To make the most of the eclipse, there is one key factor: choosing the right location.

A Coruña
A province with a clear presence of totality. The city of A Coruña lies within the path of totality, as do many municipalities in the metropolitan area and across the north and inland regions. In the southwest and in some coastal areas, the eclipse will be partial.

Lugo
This is the Galician province with the greatest coverage of the path of totality. Most of the territory, including the capital, will be able to experience the total eclipse.

Ourense
A province of contrasts: a predominance of a partial eclipse with totality in some municipalities. This is especially concentrated in the east and southeast (Valdeorras and mountainous areas), while in the city of Ourense and much of the rest of the territory, the eclipse will be partial.

Pontevedra
A partial eclipse predominates, with totality only in specific inland municipalities. In most of the province, the magnitude will be very high, although it will not reach totality.

Additionally, the journeys include bus segments that bring you closer to key points of interest on each route. Below, we present all the routes and their departures.

• Camellia in Bloom Route

From Santiago de Compostela, you will head to Pazo de Quinteiro da Cruz. There, you will enjoy a guided walking tour of its gardens, which host over 1,000 camellia varieties.
Next, you will travel by train to Pontevedra to discover the gardens of Pazo de Lourizán, a true flower paradise.

For lunch, you will have free time in Pontevedra to taste some of Galicia’s finest dishes (lunch not included).

In the afternoon, you will visit Pazo de Rubians, a reference in the world of camellias and Rías Baixas wine, with over 4,500 camellia specimens and a variety of botanical species.
Finally, a bus will take you to Vilagarcía train station.

• Ribeira Sacra Route along the Miño River

With this train, you will discover another Ribeira Sacra, perhaps less known but equally stunning.

You will visit the Monastery of the Bernardas in Pantón, where you can purchase their artisanal pastries.

You will also visit the facilities of the Arxeriz Ecomuseum, a space combining ethnography, history, and nature of the Ribeira Sacra.

In the afternoon, you will board a catamaran on the Miño River from Belesar for a spectacular journey through Romanesque landscapes.

Later, you will admire the heroic viticulture at Vía Romana winery, located in a 16th-century manor house named after the Roman road linking Astorga and Braga. After the visit, you can taste some of its wines.

The first line was inaugurated in 1873, connecting Cornes (actualmente en Santiago de Compostel) y Carril (actualmente en Vilagarcía de Arousa), and shortly afterward the connection with the Spanish Meseta was completed, opening the way for modern passenger and freight transport and contributing decisively to the economic and social development of the region.

The Galician railway network, shaped by the region’s mountainous terrain and natural landscapes, makes every journey a unique experience through valleys, rivers, hills, and the Atlantic coast.

Today, the train is not only a means of transportation but also a vehicle for experiences, culture, and sustainable tourism, thanks to initiatives such as the Galicia Tourist Trains.

Galicia Tourist Trains

Aiming to offer new ways to discover the region, the Galicia Tourist Trains program was launched in collaboration with Renfe and Inorde.
Each year, travelers can enjoy thematic routes that combine train journeys with guided visits to vineyards, wineries, cheese factories, gardens, castros, medieval towns, and monasteries.

In 2025, 13 different itineraries were offered, with more than 2,500 seats and an average occupancy rate of 92%, consolidating the program as one of the most highly valued experiences by visitors.

Highlighted routes include:

• Lighthouse Route: Cabo Ortegal, Vixía Herbeira, Santo André de Teixido, Viveiro, and Estaca de Bares.
• Wine Routes: Ribeira Sacra (Sil and Miño rivers), Valdeorras, Rías Baixas, Ribeiro, and Monterrei.
• Manor Houses and Historical Gardens Route: Rubiáns, Soutomaior, and Pazo Quinteiro da Cruz gardens.
• Galicia Cheese Route: featuring the Tetilla, Arzúa-Ulloa, and San Simón da Costa denominated cheeses.
• Other Routes: Monasteries, Mariñas, MEGA Experience, and A Coruña in 1906.

The Lighthouse Route, recognized by the International Union of Railways

The 2025 season closed with great news: the Lighthouse Route was awarded the “Tourism-Friendly” Prize in the short-distance travel category, granted by the International Union of Railways (UIC) at the TopRail Tourism Awards 2025.

This international recognition highlights the excellence and innovation of Galicia’s railway experiences, as well as the train as a sustainable and inclusive mode of transport. It is an incentive to continue offering journeys that combine nature, heritage, and culture, proving that traveling by train is another way to discover Galicia. Will you join us next season?

Neither cultural nor idiomatic differences, not even geographical, have been an obstacle for people from places as different as Aruba, Papua New Guinea, Benin, Brunei, Micronesia, Bhutan or Vanuatu have been attracted by an already universal route that that keeps growing year after year. This has happened again in 2019. According to the Pilgrim Reception Office, a total of 347,578 they visited its office offices last year, which is 20,000 more than in 2018.

The five continents is represented extensively in the list of pilgrims, which does not offer changes in the top positions of the influx ranking by countries: the Spanish are the majority (42% of the total) followed in the distance by Italians (8.2%), Germans (7.53%), Americans (5.94%) and Portuguese (5.02%). But it is especially striking to see how Korea continues its particular escalation in this list and after overcoming Ireland it has already become the eighth country from which more pilgrims arrive: a total of 8,224 in 2019. The Camino is a phenomenon in that Asian country, where it has led to editorial successes and has served as an axis even for television programs and competitions.

The Camino is varied in its routes, in the way of traveling and in the motivations of the pilgrims, and although the French, on foot and religious reasons continue to set the tone, less crowded routes, the most diverse inspirations and the less usual ways of travelling are also increasing. The Portuguese Way of the Coast grew in just 12 months by more than 60%, the number of pilgrims who chose to sail to make part of the route increased by 86% and those who are not guided solely for religious reasons are already a majority.

Employees, students, liberal professionals, retirees, technicians, professors, officials, unemployed, workers… The whole social spectrum is also represented in this route that has allowed pilgrims to know Galicia throughout its territory. Ribadeo, Fisterra, A Guarda and A Mezquita, the four corners of Galicia are present on a route map that links the entire territory and that enhances the pilgrim’s experience with nature, heritage, history, gastronomy, ethnography and a host of incentives. The Camino has thus become a great gateway to this land. And you, what are you waiting to cross it?

Characterized by the picture that draws the medieval bridge of Romanesque origin that connects Negreira and Ames and converted into a passage for pilgrims heading to Fisterra, A Ponte Maceira has just been included by the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages of Spain in the select group of places (less than a hundred) that have this seal of quality. The organization, born in 2011 and integrated into an international federation, is creating a network that brings together “places of great beauty that distil history and culture at the same time” and groups them “under the same quality brand”. Its promoters intend to promote rural areas and small municipalities (the recognition is targeted at populations under 15,000 inhabitants) and “involve the different administrations to support, care for and respect our heritage.”

A Ponte Maceira has entered this restricted club at the request of the City Council of Negreira and after overcome several requirements: comply the population criteria, have an architectural heritage or natural certificate, and approve the audit performed by the entity’s quality staff and that It includes very different aspects: cleaning, conservation of facades, harmony and homogeneity of the constructions, limitations on the circulation of vehicles, existence of car parks, care of the garden areas and treatment of advertising badges and posters, among many others.

From the organization explain “any town that has our brand comply the criteria of quality, beauty and tourist accessibility that will not disappoint any visitor.” In addition, they emphasize that only 20% of the towns that request their adhesion to this seal of quality manage to exceed the selection criteria. In the case of Galicia, only two locations achieved recognition in A Ponte Maceira before: Mondoñedo and Castro Caldelas.

The incorporation of the village located in Negreira was approved at the seventh national assembly of the Most Beautiful Villages of Spain held on November 30th in Puebla de Sanabria along with 14 other locations throughout the country.

From now on, A Ponte Maceira will be able to show in its accesses the signs that accredit its new condition and beneficiary of the promotional actions developed by the entity.

_I have only done the English Way and what surprised me most were its landscapes and, even walking in a group, the feeling of finding myself.

_What do you like most about Galicia?

_The food, especially the octopus; Its landscapes and its people.

_Did your brother John tell you something about his plans to travel the Way?

_The information I have is through various people and the book “La Gran Vía se ríe”, by the Galician writer Antonio D. Olano, confidant and personal friend of Dalí, who was in charge of sending the telegrams that he sent to John. Dalí wanted a thousand young people to join them on that trip. Both were very eccentric and you could expect anything from them.

_Do you know how John became aware of the existence of the Way?

_I don’t know, maybe through his friend Dalí.

_How do you think he would have felt if he had traveled the Way?

_My brother had a spiritual background and would surely have influenced him positively, especially given the hectic lifestyle he had at the time.

_Do you plan to travel any other route of the Camino?

_Yes, but this time I would like to do it from Porto.

_What song by John Lennon do you think connects most with the Way?

_What did you think when you were proposed to participate in a video to promote the English Way?

_It was proposed to me by Dr. Chema Ríos, with whom I have been friends for years and with whom I have collaborated in several charitable projects in favor of Médicos Sin Fronteras. When I listened the song by Carolina Rubirosa I had no doubt because it was very beautiful and I had already collaborated with her on the song “Isolation” by my brother.

_How is the music of Carolina Rubirosa?

_I have listened Carolina sing in Liverpool and on other occasions. Her voice conveys emotion to me and her songs are beautiful.

_What would John have thought of this project?

_Surely he would have liked it.
