Festa do choco
From 10 to 12 May – Redondela
The celebration of the exaltation of this cephalopod takes place in the Ría de Vigo, and more specifically, in Redondela. It is held in a tent in the Alameda where you can taste the cuttlefish cooked by restaurants in the area.
The main event of the festival is the gastronomic competition in which anyone can participate. The prizes are divided into four categories: best creative recipe, cuttlefish in black ink, cuttlefish rice and cuttlefish “empanada”.
These days, Redondela offers an extensive program of festive-cultural activities, music bands, sports and children’s games, among others.
Festa da troita
From 10 to 12 May – Oroso
Since 1996, the town’s long trout tradition has been extolled through this festival. The festive program lasts the whole weekend, livening up the days with performances by charangas and orchestras as well as children’s workshops and traditional games. The Sunday activities stand out: a fishing contest and a free trout tasting.
The party offers a leisure to suit everyone’s tastes: from a Folk Festival to a concentration of classic cars through an excellent atmosphere of tapas and wines in the different bars of the area, where the tapa par excellence will be the trout.
Festa do Melindre e da Repostería Tradicional da Terra
Do 10 ao 12 de maio – Melide
For the past twenty-two years, the second Sunday in May Melide smells like candy. Although melindres and “almendrados” are better known, Melide’s genuine dessert is the “rico” made with cow’s butter, flour, eggs, sugar and anise and at this festival they are given homage with samples and tastings. All accompanied by music and dance by traditional groups, a children’s drawing competition or a souvenir of the local craftsmen, blacksmiths or shoemakers.
Mostra do aceite de Quiroga
12 May – Quiroga
Quiroga is one of the few areas of Galicia that maintained the cultivation of olive trees and the traditional production of oil and, since 2000, holds a show to contemplate the entire process of its artisanal production and to give recognition to producers who still bet on this art.
The meeting takes place in As Farrapas, in the parish of Bendilló, in the oil mill of Guillermo Nogueira. Visitors can contemplate the process through two complete grindings, using the instruments and procedures that mark the tradition. The harvesters will sell their oil at the stalls in the area and there will be other delicacies such as chestnuts, wine, honey or homemade liqueurs. The day will be completed with performances of traditional music and dances, a tasting of participating oils with tastings of octopus and grilled meat.
Welcome May in the best possible way! We leave you several options for this second weekend. Choose the one that catches your attention the most and don’t hesitate to approach. You’ll have a great time in any of them!
